Resistance band workouts for shoulders
A good resistance band belongs in every workout kit, especially if you deal with tight shoulders, desk posture, or the load rugby puts on your upper body. The Ruck & Run band gives you 6-15kg progressive resistance for home workouts, gym warm-ups, and shoulder mobility sessions without bulky equipment.
Bands let you train through a full range of motion with less compression on the joint than heavy dumbbells alone. That makes them useful for activation before a session and for building stable shoulders over time, not as a quick fix for acute pain.
Shoulder-friendly band exercises
Band pull-aparts
Stand tall, hold the band at shoulder height, and pull apart while squeezing your shoulder blades. Great for posture and rear-shoulder activation.
External rotations
Elbow tucked at your side, rotate your forearm outward against the band. Use light tension and slow reps for rotator cuff work.
Face pulls
Pull the band toward your face with elbows high. Targets upper back and external rotators, useful before pressing or contact sessions.
Controlled rows
Anchor the band and row with a flat back. Builds pulling strength for rugby carries, gym work, and balanced shoulder loading.
Simple 10-minute shoulder prep
- Band pull-aparts: 2 sets of 15 reps
- External rotations each arm: 2 sets of 12 reps
- Face pulls: 2 sets of 15 reps
- Controlled rows: 2 sets of 12 reps
Stop if you feel sharp pain. This is general training information, not medical advice. Persistent shoulder pain needs a physio or doctor, not more reps through discomfort.
Common questions
- Can a resistance band help with shoulder pain?
- Resistance bands are commonly used for shoulder mobility, activation, and low-load rehab-style exercises, for example external rotations, band pull-aparts, and controlled rows. They are not a substitute for medical diagnosis. If shoulder pain persists, worsens, or follows an injury, see a physiotherapist or doctor before training through it.
- What resistance band workouts are good for shoulders?
- Start with light tension: band pull-aparts, external rotations with your elbow at your side, face pulls, and scapular rows. Keep reps controlled, pain-free, and focus on posture. The Ruck & Run band offers 6-15kg resistance so you can progress from warm-up work to stronger pulling exercises.
- What resistance level is this band?
- The Ruck & Run resistance band provides 6-15kg of progressive resistance, enough for warm-ups, home workouts, rugby prep, and shoulder stability work without needing a full cable machine.
- Do you deliver resistance bands across South Africa?
- Yes. Orders ship free with The Courier Guy, typically 3 to 5 business days, anywhere in South Africa.
